CIPA’s five-year investment strategy

NICOSIA The Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency will draft a five-year strategic plan for investments in the fields of services, banking, trade, tourism, shipping and energy. This is what CIPA chairman Christodoulos Angastiniotis said this week after a board meeting with Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis.

Ryanair sets up Paphos hub

RYANAIR announced it would base two aircraft at Paphos, offering 80 flights a week to 14 new destinations as of April by investing nearly €110 million to bring in 600,000 passengers a year and provide 600 jobs.

Patra, Chania, Frankfurt Hahn, Kaunus, Krakow, London-Stansted, Memmingen, Bergamo, Oslo, Pisa, Rome, Stockholm, Thessaloniki and Treviso are the 14 new destinations. The routes are available for booking as of today on www.ryanair.com.

The low-cost carrier will be the first airline to take advantage of the  government’s new incentives to boost tourism, which includes a substantial drop in landing fees.

Paphos Culture Capital of Europe 2017

The European Capital of Culture programme was initially called the European City of Culture and was conceived in 1983 by Melina Mercouri, then serving as Greek Minister of Culture. Mercouri believed that at the time, culture was not given the same attention as politics and economics and a project for promoting European cultures within the member states should be pursued. The European City of Culture programme was launched in the summer of 1985 with Athens being the first title-holder. During the  German Presidency of  1999, the European City of Culture programme was renamed the European Capital of Culture.
